Directional Boring FAQ
Directional Boring Questions Oklahoma Property Owners Ask
Straight answers from a licensed Oklahoma directional boring contractor. Still have a question? Call (405) 409-7423, open 24 hours.
What is directional boring and how does it work?
Directional boring, also called horizontal directional drilling (HDD), is a trenchless method of installing underground pipe, conduit, or cable along a controlled path without excavating the surface. A steerable drill head is pushed through the ground at a shallow angle from an entry pit on one side to an exit pit on the other. Once the pilot bore is complete, the hole is reamed to the correct diameter and the pipe or conduit is pulled back through. The result is a complete underground crossing with no surface damage, no road cuts, and no landscaping disruption.
How much does directional boring cost in Oklahoma?
Boring costs vary based on the length of the bore, the diameter of the pipe, soil conditions, and depth. A short residential driveway bore typically runs differently from a long commercial crossing or a highway bore under asphalt. Trinity Boring Solutions provides free same day quotes with no commitment required. Call (405) 409-7423 or use the contact form and we will price your specific project accurately. Most customers find boring is far less expensive than the concrete and pavement repair costs of open cutting.
What types of pipe and conduit can you bore?
We bore and pull back HDPE, PVC, polyethylene, steel, and ductile iron pipe as well as conduit for electric, fiber optic, and telecom lines. Pipe sizes range from small residential service lines up to large diameter municipal mains. We also run steel casing where soil conditions or local codes require it. If you have a specific pipe material or size in mind, call us and we will confirm whether it fits your crossing.
Do you handle permits for directional boring jobs?
Yes. Trinity Boring Solutions handles the utility locate process through Okie811 on every job before we drill. For permitted crossings under city streets, ODOT right of way, railroads, or private easements, we coordinate with the relevant authority having jurisdiction and obtain the required boring permits. You do not need to manage the permitting process. We handle it as part of the job so your schedule stays clean.
How long does a directional bore take to complete?
Most residential and small commercial bores are completed in a single day. A short driveway crossing can be done in a few hours. Larger bores such as long highway crossings, large diameter water mains, or river crossings may take several days depending on soil conditions and bore length. We give you a realistic completion estimate before we start and we stick to it. Same day mobilization is available for emergency situations.
What is the difference between directional boring and trenching?
Trenching is an open cut method where a machine digs a trench from point A to point B, the pipe is laid in it, and the trench is backfilled and the surface restored. Directional boring goes under the surface so there is no open trench, no road cutting, no pavement restoration cost, and no disruption to traffic, landscaping, or existing utilities that run perpendicular to your bore path. Boring costs more per foot but saves significant money when you factor in surface restoration, traffic control, and project time.
Are you licensed and insured for directional boring in Oklahoma?
Yes. Trinity Boring Solutions is fully licensed, bonded, and insured for directional boring and underground utility work in Oklahoma. We carry general liability, workers compensation, and equipment insurance. We are a member of NUCA (National Utility Contractors Association), NASTT (North American Society for Trenchless Technology), and accredited with the BBB. Certificates of insurance are available on request for any project.
Do you offer vacuum excavation and daylighting services?
Yes. Vacuum excavation and daylighting (potholing) are part of our service offering. We use hydrovac units to safely expose existing underground utilities before boring so we know exactly what is in the ground before we drill. This protects gas lines, water mains, electrical conduit, and fiber lines from accidental damage. It is standard practice on complex jobs and we recommend it on any crossing near dense utility corridors.
Can you bore under a road, highway, or river in Oklahoma?
Absolutely. Trinity Boring Solutions has completed large scale HDD crossings under ODOT highways, railroad right of way, and waterways including crossings under the Arkansas River. Our fleet includes high thrust HDD rigs capable of long distance large diameter bores that smaller contractors cannot handle. If you have a highway, river, or railroad crossing in Oklahoma, contact us for a project assessment.
How do I get a quote for directional boring in Oklahoma?
Call us directly at (405) 409-7423 for same day response, or use our online quote form at the Contact page. To get an accurate quote quickly, have ready: the location of the bore, the approximate length and depth, the type and size of pipe or conduit, and any surface conditions such as concrete, asphalt, or landscaping. We deliver quotes the same day, no commitment required. Emergency situations receive priority response 24 hours a day.
